As they grew closer as performers and as friends, the idea came up of turning their experiences into a stage show. Masony and Jenkins do a podcast together, and she also does a show with Blizzard. An honest, authentic relationship is going to get you much further than any of these other things that people are doing online. “The brand that I have built, I consider it just me. “I don’t consider myself an influencer,” she said. Her Facebook page has more than three million followers, and her YouTube channel will likely hit the 100,000 subscriber mark sometime during her tour. She’s built up a nice little empire for herself. Masony kept at it, while continuing working her day job as a teacher, until she finally gained enough momentum to make it a full-time pursuit. “It took me another year to figure out how to turn that into a business,” she said. ![]() From Facebook, she started her own website, “That’s Inappropriate,” which functions as her online hub. She went from 3,000 subscribers to 60,000 in a matter of weeks, and she was off to the races from there. By the end of the night, it had 100,000 views by morning it had a million views, and by the weekend it had ten million views.” “I did this video about Mother’s Day, and it got 10,000 views in the first hour. So I started taking the things that I wanted to write as bits and creating them as videos.” “As a 30-something-year-old mom of three kids, I couldn’t play that game. She began to experiment with doing open-mic comedy, but the logistics were daunting. “I remember the first time one of my videos got 10,000 views, and I was like ‘Oh my God!'" she said. She expanded into video work a couple years later, and was shocked to see how quickly her content gained traction. “I started my website back in 2014, and it was just a blog,” she said. The path that led Masony to the stage began about seven years ago. “He loves it, because the area is riddled with golf courses,” she said. Meanwhile, her husband was off playing golf. I’ve found some friends, my husband has found some friends.” It’s very different from back where we were. “My kids have friends that they can just roll out the door and ride bikes with. “I really love the neighborhood that we’re in,” Masony said. Masony and her family moved here from Port Charlotte last year. But Masony welcomes the distraction - not just for her daughter, but also for her. She had just recently begun learning to ride horses, which is always a cause for concern. She Zoomed in on a Saturday afternoon, with one eye on her cell phone and the other looking at her daughter in her rear-view mirror. Given her hectic schedule, it was surprising that she could find an hour to spare for an interview. She’s also running her websites and working on a new book. The comedian and author has spent most of her free time preparing her new live show, “My Name is NOT Mom,” which premieres at the Comedy Zone in Mandarin on July 20. It’s been a long year for Meredith Masony, as it has been for mothers everywhere.
